Have you received a notice from the Law Society of Upper Canada advising you of an upcoming Spot Audit to review your books and records? The Spot Audit (not to be confused with the Practice Review) is the Law Society of Upper Canada’s mechanism used to ensure that lawyers are in compliance with the Rules of Professional Conduct when it comes to record keeping and the maintenance of general and trust accounts. Maintaining accurate and complete books and records on a regular basis, as well as properly preparing for spot audits will ensure a smooth process.
