Description
On January 1, 2020, the maximum claim filed in Small Claims Court will increase to $35,000 from the current maximum of $25,000. The rationale is to help people and businesses spend less time in courtrooms.
The impact of this new claim jurisdiction will more than just about wait times in Small Claims Court: the types of claims, motions that may be required, potential to transfer a case from Superior Court to Small Claims Court, the likelihood for increased self-representation, and the increased minimum for appeal to Divisional Court are all factors that you, and your clients, will need to consider.
In this one hour webinar, Marcel Mongeon and Robert Besunder will examine the new jurisdiction level in Small Claims Court, discussing both the benefits and potential hindrances.
